My psychiatry practice involves the treatment of adults and adolescents above age 16, focusing on the following specialty areas:

• Comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and second opinions for the treatment of complex mood disorders
• Psychopharmacology of bipolar disorder, depression, anxiety disorders and other major psychiatric disorders 
• Consultation for management of psychotropic drug side effects
• Psychopharmacology during pregnancy and post-partum periods
• Individual psychodynamic and cognitively-based psychotherapy 
• Expert testimony in cases involving the treatment of bipolar disorder
• Consultation and psychopharmacology supervision to other psychiatrists and other mental health professionals

For over 25 years, my clinical and research work has focused on the treatment of bipolar and other mood disorders.  As founding Director of the Bipolar Disorders Research Program of the Payne Whitney Clinic, New York Presbyterian Hospital, I served as a Principal Investigator in numerous research trials of medications, cognitive function, and pharmacogenetics for the treatment of bipolar disorder, schizophrenia and major depression, funded by the National Institutes of Mental Health (NIMH), the National Alliance for Research in Schizophrenia and Depression (NARSAD), private foundations and industry.  As the author of over 160 research publications and 3 textbooks on psychopharmacology and mood disorders, I strive to bring a level of expertise to my private practice that integrates knowledge of research-based findings with personalized attention, tailoring the best treatment to the individual, rather than to the diagnosis.
